Correction of children

Proverbs 29:15 "The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame."

Proverbs 29:17 "Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest; yea, he shall give delight unto thy soul."

Both these verses should give parents something to think about! There are too many kids left to themselves these days. They yell and scream and run around like little banshees. They aren't taught to behave in public (church, restaurants, etc), let alone at home.

Other verses where the Lord discusses correcting our children...

Proverbs 22:15 "Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him."

Proverbs 23:13 "Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die."

Praise HIM

"Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips." Proverbs 27:2

Too often we here people patting themselves on the back for what they've "done for the Lord"! "Well, I spent ALL day over at the church pulling weeds, or cleaning the sanctuary, or painting the walls, etc." or "I gave $XXX to that Missionary when he was in last week" or "My family donated [this or that] to the church."  Wow, do you ever want to stop and say - "You're awful proud of yourself there aren't you?"

Matthew 6:3 says  "But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:"

God has told us that we aren't to do things for Him and brag about it. Maybe we should all remember to spend more time praising HIM and not ourselves!

Godly Friendship

"A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother." Proverbs 18:24

How can we expect to have friends if we aren't friendly towards others?  But, there are times when even our closest friends aren't there for us. No earthly relationship could ever fill that void as a relationship God can. Thank goodness He is always there for us, whenever and wherever we need Him!

Your Sword

"Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil."  Ephesians 6:11

If a man was going into battle, he would be prepared. He would have a sword, shield, armor, etc. We as Christians go into battle daily, and we fight the devil on many fronts throughout each day. Why is it then that we often try to do so unarmed? Then we sit and wonder why we don't get the victory! The BIBLE is your sword. Don't leave home without it!

VBS 2010

We kicked off our VBS last night and it started great! We had 14 kids last night, including two new ones, and they all seemed to have a blast - including the adults! Most of our adults also stayed to watch and help, which was a blessing! The devil has been on most everyone in our church for about the last two weeks, so we're really looking forward to what the LORD is going to do!

"Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil."  Ephesians 6:11

Let's get "Armoured Up"!!

How Nigh Are You?

Children are God's Heritage

"Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward." Ps 127:3

As we head into our week of Vacation Bible School, we must stop to remember what a gift each child really is. Some may be a little more spirited than others, but they are all gifts from God. Parents are expected to teach their children and set examples for them to follow, this too is Scriptural! We would do good to remember those little eyes are always watching us all the time, whether we are their parents, Sunday School teachers, or just friends of the family.

O Lord, I pray that I am setting a good example at all times and teaching my child the ways of God.

God is so good!

We made it home just in time for church tonight. Thanks for the prayers! Grandma is doing good, was moved to the rehab floor today and starts rehab tomorrow. Please continue to pray as we know it will be hard, but it's necessary.

Update

Thank you all for your prayers for my Grandmother. She had surgery on Monday after lunch and is doing good. She got up with assistance, and sat in a chair for a couple hours today and also had a solid meal. She is still in pain, but that's to be expected. Last I heard they expect her to be in the hospital for at least a week, then be moved into a rehab facility. My uncle is trying to get her moved over here closer to home, about five minutes from her house instead of 25 (at the hospital). Not sure what else to expect from there.

I know my friends have been praying for us all and I appreciate it greatly. Not sure when we'll head home, but I'm shooting for Thursday if she's doing ok. Looking forward to being home, church and VBS preparation (it's next week!) Thanks again, God Bless!

Prayer Request

Please pray for my family - My 90 y/o Grandmother (she'll be 91 on 8/15) fell this morning and broke her hip. She'll be in surgery in the morning. Lindsey and I will be traveling to Richmond to be with her and my family.

Thank you all,
Love in Christ,
Lisa

Precious Jewels

"As a jewel of gold in a swine's snout, so is a fair woman which is without discretion." Proverbs 11:22

Picture a big old pig with a ruby or diamond in its nose! NOT a pretty picture! That's the impression here - a beautiful woman without discretion as pretty as a pig with a "jewel of gold" in its nose. For clarification, I have listed the definitions of discretion and discreet...

Discretion:
The quality of being discreet; wise conduct and management; cautious discernment, especially as to matters of propriety and self-control;
Discreet:
Prudent; wise in avoiding errors or evil, and in selecting the best means to accomplish a purpose; circumspect; cautious; wary; not rash.

Discretion is a precious quality, especially in a Christian woman. It tends help us keep the qualities considered more "Christ-Like", such as being obedient to our husbands, not gossiping, or being modest, that the world doesn't seem to care about. These are such things that set us apart from the world, which we are supposed to be according to scripture.

"There is gold, and a multitude of rubies: but the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel." Proverbs 20:15  How much better to know when to be discreet and to reap the benefits of it!!

Fear of the Lord

Ever get called to the principal's office in school? What about being called into your supervisor's office at work? Did you at least get a bit afraid at the thought of it?

We should have a healthy fear or reverence of the Lord as well. The Bible says in Proverbs 9:10 "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding."  Remember:  Matthew 12:36 "But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment."

EVERY idle word. Wow, have you ever mumbled something under your breath towards someone who upset you or fussed at another driver on the road? Think about that one for a while!

I'm Different!

The fact that I am a woman does not make me a different kind of Christian, but the fact that I am a Christian does make me a different kind of woman. For I have accepted God's idea of me, and my whole life is an offering back to Him of all that I am and all that He wants me to be.  (copied)

"For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God, and the LORD hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto himself, above all the nations that are upon the earth." Deuteronomy 14:2

We are supposed to be different and to stand out from this world, not blend in with it. So what if people look at us funny sometimes because of the things we do (or don't do) or what we wear. Sinners will not respond to a Christianity that appears to be just like them, or condones their sinful state.

Today - A Gift From God!

"This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it." Psalm 118:24

When we get up in the morning and rush through our day, we often find ourselves complaining about all we have to do or what we wanted to do, but couldn't. Not to mention complaining about how we feel, or how poorly we slept, etc.  How much more often should we get up with song and praise on our lips to God for giving us another day, and end the day with thankfulness that we were able to accomplish what we did.  Praise be to God!
Sleeping beauty refused to nap in her bed! Notice daddy sleeping in the back. Not fair!

Our Communication

"Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers." Ephesians  4:29

Its grace a sinner needs to hear from us not bashing!
