"When the wicked beareth rule"

When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn. Proverbs 29:2

I am NOT one to talk politics, but this verse really struck me this morning. Our country is in such a sad state of affairs these days. The rulers our our great nation are gradually taking away our rights. As Christians we need to stand together and, at the very least, be in prayer for our country and it's leaders.

Many seek the ruler's favour; but every man's judgment cometh from the LORD. Proverbs 29:26

Many times, all some want to do is to be in favor of the ruler, and try to pacify him by agreeing with everything he does. Be weary of those who always agree with, or vote for, everything our "leader" wants. He's not the one we need to seek approval from!

As a roaring lion, and a ranging bear; so is a wicked ruler over the poor people. Proverbs 28:15

Also interesting was this verse from yesterday's Proverbs chapter.

"The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe." Proverbs 18:10

"And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:7

When we have a need, the LORD is the only place to go. Only HE can give us the true peace we need.

A Merry Heart

"A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance:..." Proverbs 15:13

For the righteous (saints/saved) we have the Holy Spirit within and SHOULD have joy within. So if we have joy, we should have a "merry heart".

Remember the children's song "If you're happy and you know it"? It says "if you're happy and you know it, then your face will surely show it...!" Does your face show how happy you are?? Take a look in the mirror...

Too often, those of us who are saved can't be distinguished from those who aren't because we don't show the joy within. Why don't we have that joy??

1. Are you walking with the LORD daily (reading your Bible)? "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." 2 Timothy 2:15

2. Are you praying?  "Pray without ceasing." 1 Thessalonians 5:17

3. Are you in church? "Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching." Hebrews 10:25

Not doing these things will really take it's toll on the Christian's life. You won't be able to live a victorious Christian life if you aren't getting victory over the flesh and doing the things the Lord has instructed us to do.

"A merry heart doeth good like a medicine:..." Proverbs 17:22

"The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise." Proverbs 11:30

RIGHTEOUS, a. ri'chus.

1. Just; accordant to the divine law. Applied to persons, it denotes one who is holy in heart, and observant of the divine commands in practice; as a righteous man. Applied to things, it denotes consonant to the divine will or to justice; as a righteous act. It is used chiefly in theology, and applied to God, to his testimonies and to his saints.
The righteous, in Scripture, denote the servants of God, the saints.
2. Just; equitable; merited.

The first reference to the Tree of Life is in the Garden of Eden. After Adam had eaten of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, in Genesis 3:22 "And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:"  The tree is located in the Garden.

We see another reference to the location of the Tree of Life in Revelation 2:7 "He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God."

And, in Revelation 22:2, we see that this tree bears fruit - 12 kinds - monthly, and it's a healing fruit, "In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations."

The second half of the verse refers to winning souls, "and he that winneth souls is wise." - self explanatory.

So from the text verse, we see that we "Saints", or Servants of God, are to bear fruit and winning souls is in our best interest!

Winning souls isn't something that should be left to the missionary. When we leave the front doors (or whatever door) of our church, we are entering the Mission Field - OUR mission field. We all have the responsibility to witness to others. And, that doesn't mean we are to be a "silent witness". There are plenty of "good" people out there who are dying and going to hell because WE are not speaking up and telling them about Jesus and what He did for us.
"My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience." James 1:2-3

Withhold Not

"Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it."  Proverbs 3:27

If your neighbor came and asked for help with food, would you not give it to them? Why then as Christians do we not readily give our neighbors the Gospel truth? Is it not better than any bread we could give - It IS the Bread of Life!

As we head into our Church's Missions Month, we need to remember that missionaries have sacrificed much (or all) to get God's Word out. Our first missionary works with the homeless. He's collecting items to give to them (tooth brushes, tooth paste, razors, paper, pen, etc) that he can use to help reach them. These are items we can all run down to the local Walmart to pick up when we think we need a new one. Did you ever think that a tooth brush would be a tool to get out the Gospel?? It's creative at the very least! But, this man and his family live in a camper. They have also sacrificed to do the work of the Lord. Let's remember our neighbors, both near and far, who need to know about the love of Christ and what He did for us. And, pray for our missionaries here and abroad.
