God's Word is Pure

"Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him." Proverbs 30:5

We would do good to remember God's Word IS pure, and it should be taken literally. It's not a fairy tale or folklore. It's not meant to entertain, but to instruct and guide.

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.  2Timothy 3:16-17

When we pray, we talk to God; but when we read His Word, He talks to us.

Even A Child

"Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right." Proverbs 20:11

Remember if a child is know by what he does, how much more we are known by what we do! (And, if you don't think children are known by their actions - just ask a teacher! They hear about the "bad" kids the year before they ever get to them!)

Other people are always watching us. How we talk, dress, act, how we handle situations, etc. They will especially be watching what we as "Christians" do! And, don't forget the little eyes that watch and do and magnify everything we do!

Words of a Talebearer

"The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly."  Proverbs 18:8

Tale-bearers are those who secretly carry stories from house to house, which perhaps have some truth in them, but are secrets not fit to be told, or are basely misrepresented, and false colours put upon them, and are all told with design to blast men's reputation, to break their friendship, to make mischief between relations and neighbours, and set them at variance. - Matthew Henry

The word "talebearer" is mentioned 6 times in the Bible. Our text for today is in the Bible TWICE. Proverbs 18:8 and 26:22.

Leviticus 19:16 Thou shalt not go up and down as a talebearer among thy people: neither shalt thou stand against the blood of thy neighbour: I am the LORD.
Proverbs 11:13 A talebearer revealeth secrets: but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter.
Proverbs 18:8 The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
Proverbs 20:19 He that goeth about as a talebearer revealeth secrets: therefore meddle not with him that flattereth with his lips.
Proverbs 26:20 Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth.
Proverbs 26:22 The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.

After seeing that God said NOT to go to the people as a talebearer in Leviticus, perhaps one would quickly see that being a talebearer isn't a good thing! But the other verses out of the book of wisdom, Proverbs, also show how much a talebearer can hurt others. Oh, by the way, a talebearer is also known as a gossiper!

Bless The LORD

"Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name." Psalm 103:1

Let's take the time today to really praise the LORD! Worship Him in truth and spirit. And, be thankful for what we have, even when it's things or situations we see as hardships or problems, be thankful. Remember it could be much worse.

Counsel

Proverbs 11:14 Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.

Too often we try to do things on our own. We want to make our own decisions, go our own way, etc. Before we do anything we ought to seek counsel first. This verse says "in the multitude of counsellors there is safety." Regardless of whom we seek counsel, we should be sure that counsel is Godly. Whether it be your pastor, a Godly friend, or a parent. But the most important counsel we should seek is that of the Father. Always go to Him first, in prayer and His Word.

Sowing Discord

Proverbs 6:16-19 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:  A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,  An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,  A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

Do you find it interesting that the Lord lists six things He hates - pride, lying, murder, a wicked heart/mind, mischief makers and amongst them he adds "he that soweth discord among brethren"? So think twice before you go to your friend on the pew beside you at church and talk about that woman on the other side of the church! (Or whoever it is you're talking about.) First of all it's gossip (Proverbs 18:8 & 26:22 The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly. Yes, those verses both say the same thing!) But, it also plants a seed in your "friend's" mind that will lead to more negative thoughts, and possibly cause her to say something to someone else = sowing discord.

Trust in the LORD

Pr 3:5-6 "Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."

Too often we try to do things our way before turning to God for direction and help. These verses remind us that in ALL things we should go to Him for direction. Even in the small things we might see as insignificant, He can give us simple direction. And, when the big stuff comes, it won't be as difficult to go to the Lord for help because we're already used to it and know He'll be there for us!
